Candidate Bottler Membership Application
2017 Tier 2 Inspection - CBWA & GFSI Audit
The Canadian Bottled Water Association (CBWA) bottler members have the option to use in place of the traditional CBWA third-party inspection (Tier 1) with the GFSI audit (Tier 2). The optional program allows CBWA bottler members to contract directly with an audit service agency that is certified by ANSI for the Safe Quality Food (SQF), British Retailers Consortium (BRC), or ISO food safety programs.
While one of the CBWA's objectives is to reduce the number of inspections many of our members undergo each year, CBWA must be assured during the annual GFSI-based audit (Tier 2) that all CBWA GMP, HACCP and other membership requirements are bein achieved. To confirm compliance with the CBWA Bottled Water Model Code and membership requirements, we are inquiring about your company's willingness and ability to implement the GFSI Audit Program in place of the traditional CBWA annual inspection. A copy of our annual GFSI Audit Checklist identifies gaps between what is covers during a GFSI audit and what is addressed by CBWA's traditional annual inspection program. For specifics on the CBWA's traditional annual inspection program and to assist a GFSI auditor to better understand these requirement details, please refer to the "CBWA Audit Handbook" (available by contacting griswold@cbwa.ca).
Tier 2 - CBWA - GFSI Audit:
The CBWA GFSI Audit (Tier 2) program is an "add-on" to our current CBWA tradition inspection program (Tier 1). Should yourcompany decide to participate in the CBWA GFSI Audit (Tier 2), we require from your company:
i. proof/copy of GFSI based food safety certification;
ii. a letter/statement that the GFSI audit will also cover gap items listed in the CBWA GFSI Audit Checklist;
iii. return completed "CBWA GFSI Audit Checklist" to the CBWA (griswold@cbwa.ca)
iv. corrective actions are required within 90 days for any non-compliance items identified on the "CBWA GFSI Audit Checklist";
v. requirements above MUST be submitted to CBWA to ensure the member facility receives any CBWA awards earned (Excellent in Manufacturing, Honourable Mention, Certificate of Compliance) and listed on the "CBWA Brand Names You Can Trust"'; and
vi. all costs for GFSI services are negotiated and paid for by your company to the GFSI approved audit agency. CBWA will not assume any costs associated with Tier 2 audits.
Tier 1 - CBWA Inspection:
"Tier 1" is the traditional CBWA inspection program in place since 1991. This inspection will continue under the CBWA's existing inspection services contract and membership requirements outlined in the CBWA Bottled Water Model Code for those members who do not wish to participate in the new "Tier 2" program. Payment for the CBWA inspection is required at the time of annual membership renewal original membership acceptance. For "Tier 1" CBWA Inspection, please see page 2 of the Bottler Membership Application.
Contracts for GFSI audits (Tier 2) are not through CBWA. Contract for GFSI services is direct between you and the audit agency providing service your GFSI audit. We request that you communicate details with CBWA if the Tier 2 audit is to take place this year at one or more of your facilities, so a "Tier 1" CBWA Inspection will not be scheduled. Confirmation of your CBWA - GFSI Audit is required. All GFSI audit results will remain confidential.
